South Akron Events

Laid out in December 1825, when Irish laborers building the Ohio & Erie Canal threw up roughly 100 cabins along the right-of-way. It was called "South" because Eliakim Crosby founded "North Akron" (today's Cascade) in 1833, and the two villages merged and incorporated together in 1836 — making South Akron's bones older than the city itself. Modern South Akron mixes residential blocks with light industry along the South Main Street corridor between downtown and Firestone Park. The calendar pulls from community-association programs, faith-community events, and parks programming.
